History, scope, and IEEE Computer Society sponsorship

A Long-Running IEEE Conference Series

From 2008 to the 2024 Revival

The International Conference on Business Intelligence and Financial Engineering (BIFE) was launched in 2008 in Hangzhou by a steering committee chaired by Prof. Lean Yu (Beijing University of Chemical Technology) and Prof. Shouyang Wang (Chinese Academy of Sciences). Through its early editions it became one of the most cited IEEE-sponsored venues for computational finance in Asia.

After a multi-year hiatus, the steering committee — with technical sponsorship from the IEEE Computer Society — has reconvened the series for 2024. The 17th edition returns to its original host city, Hangzhou, now established as a global FinTech hub.

All accepted, presented papers will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library and indexed by EI Compendex, Scopus, and DBLP.

Conference Scope

Mission & Aims

Mission. BIFE provides a rigorous IEEE-quality forum for original research advancing the computational, statistical, and engineering foundations of business intelligence and financial engineering — from machine learning models for credit risk to algorithmic market microstructure.

BIFE 2024 has four explicit aims:

  1. Disseminate peer-reviewed advances at the intersection of data science, machine learning, and quantitative finance.
  2. Bridge academia and industry through dedicated FinTech and RegTech industry sessions.
  3. Support early-career researchers with a doctoral consortium and best-paper awards.
  4. Encourage international collaboration, particularly across Asia-Pacific and Europe, on shared computational-finance challenges.
